RANDA is a technology company that builds custom software for state educational agencies. We worked together with the company’s leadership team to develop a web application that could create a bridge for communication and data transparency between school districts, educator preparation programs and prospective job candidates.
Problem + Discovery /
Data about available job openings is siloed between different parties within the education system. Educator Preparation Programs (EPPs) don’t have the same access to vacancy data as Districts, and Districts don’t have access to EPPs’ candidate data. We studied a journey map for each of the key users to better understand their goals and see where their workflows had similarities or overlapping actions.
Audience 1 — School Districts
Audience 2 — Educator Preparation Programs
Audience 3 — Job Candidates
Sitemaps /
We constructed an in-depth sitemap for each audience to provide a macro point of view of the site’s construction. Once the high-level structure was established, we outlined more detailed functionality for the pages and their relationship with one another. We also made notes of places where users would receive notifications or need to request or opt in to view/send certain information.
Wireframes + Content Architecture /
Next, we expanded on each page’s wireframe and information architecture to establish a more comprehensive content strategy. The total number of pages was also narrowed down to include only pages that required a template across one or more audiences.
User Dashboards /
For each audience, we designed a dashboard that would allow users to view the most relevant information and quickly perform key tasks. All three include a navigation menu for easy access to the most necessary pages as well as a notification center and settings + filtering features. The Districts and EPP dashboards also display visual data that provides an overview of current and/or past progress.
Design System /
The visual design of the site needed to be flexible enough to translate across a variety of different districts and EPPs. We chose a baseline color palette, typography and elements that were bright and inviting but also could also easily be updated to adhere to modified brand guidelines. We intentionally utilized certain colors to distinguish between key actions and labels throughout the system.
Interactive Features /
By implementing a series of repeating elements and interactions into the design system, users would encounter visual cues and functionality that felt familiar and intuitive when engaging with the product. This was especially evident in the Districts’ process of sharing positions and EPPs’ candidate matching system. We also made sure that responsive functionality felt seamless when switching between different devices.
